About Lauren

I am a college graduate who studied social media and advertising. I received my BA and after some time in my career job, I decided to pursue psychology, a subject I am deeply passionate about.

I am currently going back to school to get my master's degree in family therapy and specifically target those who wish to tackle familial issues and generational trauma. I believe that working on yourself and improving the betterment of YOU is so important.

That's why I believe in tutoring and the benefits they bring. I have always worked with children while in school. I babysat from the age of 16 to 24 and I loved every minute of it. I also picked up an after school tutoring job which opened my eyes to the word of tutoring and I've enjoyed it since.

I want to help students no matter what it is. To be their tutor, their mentor, their guide. I believe I was put on this Earth to help in any way I can and I am so excited to work with you!

I promise, as your tutor, that working together won't be a chore. That you'll actually enjoy the words you learn and will be able to use them in every day settings. I want you to flourish and grow into the best version of yourself; whatever that may be and I'm honored to be apart of your journey while working together.

About the lesson

As a tutor, I understand that everyone learns at different paces. I like to be communicative with my students and ask them how fast or how slow they want to go and check in on them every so often to make sure they're doing ok or need a break.

My lesson's are about one full hour - unless parent's require more time -. I also don't keep student's longer than needed but if I see they're struggling or taking things at a slower than normal pace, I will extend it by a few minutes just to make sure we're utilizing both of our times efficiently.

Vocabulary:
- For the first 15-30 minutes, we will work on any English homework the student is struggling with.
- The last 30-45 minutes will be vocabulary words I would like them to practice during our time together. We'll learn the words meaning, whether it's a verb or noun or etc., how it's spelled and pronounced, if there is a double meaning to the word and how it's used in a sentence, whether the word is positive or negative, when to use the word, what the synonyms and antonyms of the word, the way it appears with other words in sentences, and what their prefixes and suffixes tell us about the meaning.
- Towards the end of the lesson, I will provide the students with a list of vocabulary words that are designated for their grade level and age and occasionally throw in a word that is a grade level higher to test their knowledge and comprehension at the next lesson.
- At the next lesson, I will spend the first 15 minutes testing the student's knowledge of the vocabulary words I instructed them to study with spelling the word first, telling me the definition of the word, and using the said word in a sentence that they came up with.

I will accept 70% or better and collect all of the more difficult words for them to study on top of new words for the next lesson.

*For students in grades higher than 6th grade, I can assist with any essays or English projects they are working on.

What I believe sets me apart as a tutor is that I want the students I'll be with to see that learning vocabulary is fun and not a chore. I make learning the vocabulary words educational but easy to understand and at the pace they're comfortable learning in. I don't believe it's productive to force student's to learn for long periods of time and so I encourage small breaks in between to refresh the brain, have snacks, and if they're done early, they can log off.

I also keep trackers of student's progress and remain communicative with students and their parent's so they know where they're at and can improve on anything they're struggling in. I feel that being transparent is the only way anyone can succeed.

The lessons would be for student's between 2nd grade to sophomore year of high school.
