About Jailan

In my classroom, mistakes are opportunities that we learn a lot from. I encourage students on setting small manageable and achievable goals. Acknowledge a student's effort and progress, not just correct answers. Consistent positive reinforcement motivates students to keep trying. I have a degree in Economics and emergency teacher certification, and I've spent the last three years tutoring students in algebra, geometry, and calculus.

About the lesson

I center student experience in my math class. Break down math problems into small pieces and rebuild it step by step with student interaction in solving problems. Making sure students have access to multiple avenues to access and approach math learning. Show students how mathematical principles apply to everyday situations or their personal interests. This makes the subject feel more relevant and less intimidating.

I never really liked math before, honestly I was always scared of it and just assumed I wasn’t good. But Miss Jailan completely changed the way I see the subject. She explains things in such a simple and kind way, and she never makes you feel stupid for not understanding. You can feel that she really cares and wants you to get it. Because of her I actually started enjoying math and believing that I can do it. I’m really grateful to her, she made a big difference.
