About Jade

I started teaching writing as a graduate student at the University of Maryland at College Park (a Top 50 University) and within a year, I was chosen to be a Master Teacher. I taught composition and literature courses and guided new teachers through their first year. My first professional job was at Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth (CTY) as the Asst. Coordinator of the Online Writing Program. In this position, I supervised 23 tutors, reviewing the feedback they wrote to their students. I also taught/tutored Writing Analysis and Persuasion, AP English, and Crafting the Essay. At CTY, I honed the art of writing feedback. Also at CTY, I started coaching students in how to write their college admissions essays.. Some students were applying to prestigious private high schools and top tier universities. I helped many students write essays that showcased both their writing skills and their unique personality traits.
As a college lecturer, I have taught writing and humanities at the University of Maryland at College Park (UMD) the University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC), and Morgan State University, an HBCU. I love to show students that academic writing does not have to be dry and boring if they infuse it with their voice and interesting details.
I also specialize in coaching and writing Master’s theses and Ph.D. dissertations.

About the lesson

It is October of 2026 and the deadline to submit an application for early admission to most colleges and universities is November 1! That is less than a month away! Regular admissions deadlines are only one month later. How much difference does your college admissions essay (Common Application essay and the supplementals) make? A LOT! If your academic record is solid but not exceptional, strong essays can significantly enhance your application.
Also important are your SAT scores. You can take the test in your junior year and again in the senior year. I have coached many students and helped them raise their SAT scores as much as 300 points.
By meeting with you via Zoom or in person if you're in Baltimore, I will quickly get a grasp of your learning needs. . Then, I will coach you through SAT preparation and writing an admissions essay that highlights your strengths effectively, so you will shine on paper and catch the eyes of people in the admissions office.

I If you have a writing assignment for a paper on most any subject, I can help you to improve it and make feel confident when you turn it in.
I also write college essays and research papers, theses, and dissertations in most of the academic disciplines.
