About Sonalin

Though my academic journey has taken me through the halls of NIT Rourkela and IIFT Delhi, music has always been the thread running deepest through my life and I am now wholeheartedly committed to making it my profession and purpose.

I have trained in Hindustani classical vocals for 14 years, and have been a freelance music teacher for 2 years now. What I bring to teaching is not just technical knowledge of sur, taal and raga, but a genuine sensitivity to how students learn - their hesitations, their breakthroughs, and
the patience that teaching demands.

My background in engineering and management has, if anything, sharpened my ability to break down complex concepts into structured, learnable steps - a skill I believe translates powerfully into music pedagogy. I understand discipline, systems, and the long game, all of which are at
the heart of classical music training.

About the lesson

Course Overview
Learn the fundamentals of Hindustani Classical Music through a structured and progressive approach focusing on voice culture, raga development, and performance skills.
This course is designed to build a strong foundation in sur (pitch), laya (rhythm), and riyaaz (practice discipline).

Beginners (no prior training required)
Intermediate learners continuing formal training
Children (6+ years) & Adults
Students preparing for exams (like Gandharva / Visharad)

What You Will Learn
🟢 Beginner Level
Basic swaras (Sa Re Ga Ma…)
Alankars (patterns for voice training)
Introduction to simple ragas (e.g., Yaman, Bhoopali etc)
Voice culture & breathing techniques
Basic taals (Teentaal, Keharwa)

🟡 Intermediate Level
Raga development (e.g., Bageshree, Bhimpalasi, Kafi etc)
Vilambit & Drut compositions
Aalap, Bol-aalap, Taans
Introduction to improvisation
Strengthening laya control

Advanced Level
Detailed raga study (e.g., Multani, Puriya Dhanashree)
Complex taans & layakari
Bandish interpretation
Performance training & stage confidence
Preparation for certification exams

45–60 minutes per session
