About Amy
I establish credibility by introducing myself and telling them about me. I tell them I have a husband 2 dogs 2 daughters and three grandchildren. After introducing myself I ask my student to tell me about themselves. Always trying to find something we have in common, so we could speak about it another time. This was something I tried to do at the beginning and end of a tutoring session. This is just something to tuck away for the next session. This showed my students that I listened to them. Laughing was encouraged at the right places.

When I began teaching fractions (all grades kids and adults) I found they often became confused with terms. Whenever I began a new section I always tried to make that term fun. Prime number- They like their privacy. They only hang around with themselves and one. 3- 3*1 5 5*1 7 7*1 and so on Composite number-They like company. They have friends. Many friends 4 2*2 6 2*3 8 1*8 and 2*4 I also found teaching concepts like fractions and decimals is best taught from addition-division. By the time you teach division the class is trying to figure out what crazy thing is she going to show us next. When I finally show them how easy it is both adults/children. Laugh. I also prefer to teach decimals from beginning to end. I usually tell all my students what a terrible math student I was. My dad is bald today pulling his hair trying to explain something to me (this is said in jest of course). I further explain that both my dad and brother and now nephew can do amazing things with numbers. They make numbers sing. Not me. Hair pulling was the order of business. Not mine his.

Perfect! Amy was so amazing, she worked with my son Liam who is in kindergarten even his teacher was impressed he went from being behind other students to being above them. Amy was so kind and patient with him he looked forward to everytime she came over. Highly recommend!!!
- I really enjoyed working with Liam. He was a wonderful child to work.Within a few weeks Liam was able to blend sounds and sound out words. There is no better reward then seeing the child you work with succeed and bypass everyone’s expectations.See the response Amy :

My lessons are always tailor-made for each student. Sometimes the student has missed something that week in class. I try to make sure I fill in that missing piece. Sometimes that missing piece is so important and often overlooked. I often had the student say OOH I GET IT NOW. I often teach these missing pieces with a story. The item not understood is often forgotten; the story is rarely forgotten. Years later my former students have said to me “The story about XYZ was that real or made up?” I never tell. Usually there was some truth in that story. All lessons, books and materials are all supplied by me. All I ask is for is a clean semi-public place to work with your child. Hope to hear from you soon.
