Find your basketball trainer in Pelham

Basketball rests on seven foundational skills that unlock the rest of the game.

• Dribbling: moving the ball with one hand while staying balanced and aware of the court.
• Passing and catching: delivering the ball accurately to a teammate in the right spot.
• Layups: finishing close to the basket and scoring from mid-range.
• Defence and rebounding: staying low, tracking the ball and boxing out for position.

With guided practice, these seven skills quickly become second nature.

In Pelham, expect to pay about $30/h for a basketball lesson.

The cost depends on:

• Your current level (beginner, intermediate, advanced)
• The instructor's credentials and track record
• The package you choose (one-off or regular)
• Where the sessions take place

Many tutors offer package discounts for booking multiple lessons.

Long before dribbling existed, Naismith's rule 1 set the tone for how basketball would be played.

• According to rule 1, the ball could be sent in any direction using one hand or both.
• At the time, dribbling did not exist yet, so passing was the only way to move the ball.
• The rule pushed players to move and support each other instead of holding onto the ball.
• Today's dribbling and travelling rules trace their roots back to this first rule.

Learning the "why" behind the rules builds a deeper understanding of basketball strategy.
