About Anela
My name is Anela and I am currently a student at Trinity College Dublin. I study the Master's in Public History and Cultural Heritage, but I spent my undergraduate years as a tutor at our Writing Center. It was in those four years that I truly developed a love and appreciation for working as a tutor. As a tutor, I have such a unique opportunity to learn of and view the world from the perspective of a learner, and I believe that is incredible! In a session, the learner showcases their background and their assignment, and I have the privilege of fostering success. I pride myself on ensuring that every learner leaves the session with more confidence than when they came in!

I generally structure tutoring sessions for 30-45 minute periods, and begin with a goal-setting conversation. I believe it is crucial for both tutor and learner to be on the same page about what should be and what can be accomplished in a session. From there, I believe it is most useful for the learner to build confidence in their subject and for the tutor to work as a support system. I believe a tutor should function as someone who guides the learner to greater understanding and bolsters skills, not someone who overtakes the session.
I worked as the Lake Forest College Lead Writing Center Tutor for three years, where I worked with college writers. My tutoring practices were developed through specific Writing Center principles and standards. Beforehand, I worked as a tutor for students with learning disabilities in all subjects.
