About JILL
I have 25 years experience teaching literacy to K -Adult. My certifications include Reading, English, ELA, Speech, ESL, and Writing. I am a professor at a local college and want to continue my passion for teaching K-12 students. As a U.S. certified Master Teacher, my background is all about helping kids learn how to learn because I needed this as a student myself. I spent alot of time in the hallway because teachers did not understand my need to gaze off or why I could sit still. I decided to dedicate my life to teaching literacy empowerment and share how students can earn 2 Master's Degrees and win a "Best of the Best Award"!

I had a hard time with letters and especially sounds. A wise professor approached me and told me I could learn to love reading and writing, but she was going to use a different approach. I met with her 3-5 days a week and it clicked! I became a reader and writer and it was actually enjoyable. First, she taught me how to read with manipulative's, repetition, games, fun phonics, and tailored each lesson. She also taught me the strategies to make reading easier, and how to fine tune the writing process ( they are intertwined) while creating engaging, systematic, direct and motivating lessons. She kept a fantastic sense of humor, and my approach is to do the same. Due to COVID, my teaching method is primarily on-line, but if a student lives in San Antonio, he or she is welcome to meet me at an agreeable, Covid safe-spot. I truly understand students that are struggling to read even at the most basic level, I was a struggling reader and dyslexic myself.
