About Shannon
I have been teaching 3rd Grade for two years, and before this I spent a year with 5th Grade. Before teaching though, I spent 5 years working as an accountant, so I have a long background in working with multiple mathematical areas. My goal is to ensure that students are having an enjoyable learning experience, and that they not only are getting the correct answers, but that they are understanding the process, and retaining the information for years to come.

When I teach, I always emphasize that there is more than one way to solve a problem. If students are struggle with a Math problem, or they can't seem to remember when the Revolutionary War started, I will take a step back with them, and we will find a way or method, that not only helps them achieve the correct answer, but also helps them to retain it. I try to tie in their personal interests with their learning to help excited the students about their learning. My goal is to help them strengthen their learner's tool belt and critical thinking skills, and show students that there is always more than one way to tackle a problem.
