About Hazel
Hi! My name is Xi Chen (Hazel). I am an ESL/ELICOS teacher and an alumna of the University of Melbourne. I've been teaching General English and EAP (English for Academic Purposes) in Melbourne for over two years. My ELICOS students are mainly adults from various cultural backgrounds. I also do private tutoring for Victorian primary and secondary school students in English and Math.
I am a dedicated teacher with expertise that encompasses classroom delivery in English teaching. I am skilled and versatile in constructing and designing creative lessons for students across all levels.
I enjoy maintaining effective and challenging learning environments and have a natural ability to engage readily with students, peers, and parents to enhance and promote higher standards in the learning process.

In the language learning area, I believe in the communicative approach which requires great amount of engagement and interaction. Having been a second language learner myself, I've experienced the benefits of such approach.
However, I've come across different learning styles which require flexible teaching methods. Some students are audio learners, which means they are more likely to perform better when verbal instructions are given. Some students are visual learners who learn faster and more efficiently viewing graphs and videos. Therefore, my methodology is highly client-oriented.
I prefer to understand the learning styles of individual students and help them discover the most suitable techniques to learn better.

This price is based on customisation of the materials and study plan. If materials are provided by students, the hourly rate can be discounted according to the subject area. Also, if students wish to study in groups, I do offer a discount as well.
