About Sarah
I have tutored for as long as I can remember. As a student, I was often paired with struggling readers and writers to be a strong peer model and classroom helper. Later, in high school and college, I tutored elementary school children and my mother who has severe dyslexia. As my reading and writing skills improved, I felt compelled to help her develop her abilities. She had been ashamed of this for a long time and I felt it was my duty to help her how I could. These experiences helped me hear the calling to teach and have been so meaningful to me. On a daily basis I strive to help students succeed and make reading and writing a less stressful experience for those facing challenges with learning.

My lessons are tailored to every student's individual needs but usually focus on helping to build fluency and build strong reading and writing skills. Some topics include defining unfamiliar vocabulary, using scaffolds and visuals to support struggling learners and providing instruction proven to improve reading comprehension. Students thrive with a predictable routine that is relevant to them and their learning style and needs.
