Empowering Middle School Students Through Storytelling and Social Studies Mastery Hi, I’m Ashley, a passionate middle school educator with over four years of experience teaching English Language Arts with a strong emphasis on historical fiction, using trusted curricula like Guidebooks and Wit & Wisdom. I also have a year of experience teaching social studies through the Louisiana Bayou Bridge framework, which has deepened my approach to helping students connect history with their everyday lives. My Teaching Method & Techniques I believe students learn best when they feel seen, heard, and inspired. My approach combines close reading, text-based discussions, and writing strategies that boost critical thinking and confidence. I incorporate visual aids, historical simulations, and scaffolded questioning to meet students where they are and push them to the next level. Whether it's analyzing a protagonist’s journey or exploring the causes of the American Revolution, I guide students to think deeply, not just memorize facts. A Typical Lesson Plan Includes: Bellringer to activate prior knowledge Mini-lesson using mentor texts or primary sources Guided practice with modeling and discussion Independent work with personalized feedback Exit ticket for reflection and informal assessment Each session is engaging, culturally responsive, and tailored to support academic growth while building a love for reading and history.
