About Keelan
From a young age, I always had a passion for science. I can even remember asking for microscopes from Santa for Christmas. This flair for science led me to study biology and chemistry to leaving cert, followed by entrance into the Medical Biotechnology programme in ATU (formerly IT Sligo). Following this I moved to Kraków in Poland to pursue my Master's degree in Molecular Biotechnology, which I have recently gradated from.
In my free time I like to go to the gym, play on my PC and am currently still learning to speak Polish (somewhat well) and guitar (terribly)

I have experience in all aspects of science. My undergraduate degree from the Institute of Technology in Sligo - my home-town - focused on the basics of cell biology, chemistry and mathematics. The course began to unravel the inner workings of cell biology and eventually how to manipulate cells in order to provide therapeutic interventions for a range of medical conditions. There was extensive hands-on lab work at all points of the process which cemented my knowledge of every relevant area of life sciences.
Following graduation, I continued my education in Poland where there was a much larger range of possible topics to research when compared to my undergraduate. In particular, modules in Virology and in-vivo models of animal research were offered and proved extremely challenging but rewarding. My master thesis focused on the use of monoclonal antibodies to treat neuroblastoma. This project has given me detailed knowledge of cellular processes which are applicable to all levels of study.
