About Cecilia

Hello! I'm originally from Hong Kong and now based in the UK. As a native Chinese speaker, I speak fluent Cantonese, Mandarin and English, allowing me to explain Chinese clearly and effectively to English-speaking learners.

I enjoy helping people gain confidence in speaking Chinese and believe that learning a language should be practical, engaging and enjoyable. Whether you're learning for travel, work, GCSE exams, family communication or personal interest, I'll support you at your own pace.

I'm patient, well organised and adapt every lesson to suit each student's goals and learning style. Seeing my students grow in confidence and use Chinese in real-life situations is the most rewarding part of teaching.

About the lesson

Learning Chinese can feel challenging at first, but with the right approach it becomes enjoyable and rewarding. I believe the best way to learn a language is by using it in real-life situations, so my lessons focus on building confidence from the very beginning. Every lesson is tailored to your individual goals, whether you are learning Chinese for travel, work, GCSE examinations, family communication or personal interest. I teach both Hong Kong Cantonese and Mandarin, and explain grammar, pronunciation and sentence structures clearly in English whenever needed. Rather than asking students to memorise long vocabulary lists, I introduce practical words and phrases that you can start using immediately. A typical lesson includes: Conversation practice from the first lesson Pronunciation and tone coaching Practical vocabulary and everyday expressions Grammar explained in a simple, logical way Listening exercises using natural Chinese Reading and writing in Traditional and/or Simplified Chinese (if required) Chinese culture and etiquette to help you communicate naturally Lessons are suitable for children, teenagers and adults, from complete beginners to more advanced learners. Whether you prefer a structured learning plan or a relaxed conversational style, I will adapt every lesson to match your pace and learning objectives. My aim is not only to help you speak Chinese correctly, but to help you feel confident using it in real conversations.
