JK Rowling. Rowling concibió la idea de Harry Potter durante un viaje en tren en 1990. Cuando terminó de escribirla siete años después, su madre murió, se divorció y vivió cerca de la pobreza. Y su libro fue rechazado por 12 editores. Lo que es tan extraordinariamente inspirador de la historia de Rowling es que, a pesar de vivir cerca de la pobreza y de ser rechazada 12 veces, ella persistió en su sueño de contarle al mundo una historia sobre la vida mágica de Harry Potter.

¿Por qué consideras que hablar este idioma puede ser importante (tanto desde el punto de vista escolar, como profesional o personal)?
Aprender inglés no solo ayuda a abrir puertas de oportunidades profesionales, sino que también brinda muchas más oportunidades y perspectivas sobre el mundo. A medida que el mundo se vuelve más pequeño y globalizado, nunca ha sido más importante aprender inglés.
¿Cuál es la principal dificultad de esta lengua y qué aspecto podría ayudar a aprenderla con más facilidad?
La mejor manera de aprender un idioma es vivirlo, tener la oportunidad de respirar inglés desde que nos levantemos hasta que vayamos a dormir. No tener facilidad a acceder a espacios, tanto profesionales como lúdicos donde hay que hablar inglés sí o sí dificulta mucho poder aprender y practicar activamente el inglés. Como profesor de este idioma intento facilitar este proceso de involucración con el inglés, llevando mis clases a las necesidades del día a día del alumno, fijando conjuntamente objetivos específicos a corto y medio plazo, además de proporcionar herramientas para un aprendizaje independiente (lifelong learning) y desarrollar el inglés en tu entorno personal.
Cuéntanos una anécdota de tu experiencia como profe o como alumno.
Durante mis años de profesor de primaria en un instituto internacional de Estambul, donde impartía un curso de literatura inglesa y habla en publico, se me pidió a ultima hora de dar un discurso de ceremonia de graduación. El director del colegio tan solo me lo pidió 10 minutos antes del comienzo del evento dónde iban a asistir unas 600 personas entre padres y alumnos. Por un lado pensaba "claro que puedo, soy profe de public speaking" y por otro, ¡no paraban de temblarme las piernas delante de tanta gente! Al final fue todo un éxito, ¡gracias al apoyo y a las caras sonrientes de mis alumnos lo logré!

Siempre quise unir viajar con mi profesión. Viajar por supuesto es abrir nuevos horizontes y entrar en contacto con una cultura nueva. Entre mis experiencias de viaje, los que más me impactaron fueron Israel, Turquía y Ucrania.

Tengo un gran interés en explorar y explotar los factores que influyen en el aprendizaje efectivo, especialmente, pero no exclusivamente, mediante el uso de la tecnología. Intento lo más posible incorporar este aspecto en mis clases. Mi primer objetivo en cualquier clase es encontrar aquella llave que me permita conectar con el alumno y sobretodo ¡nunca, nunca, perder de vista los objetivos fijados!
