About Amanda
Hi everyone, and welcome! My name is Amanda Carleton, and I’m so glad you’re here. I’m a parent of two incredible daughters, ages 8 and 10, both with special needs, and much of what I bring to this class comes from real, lived experience.
I’ve spent years navigating meltdowns, aggressive behaviors, and the emotional ups and downs that come with parenting neurodivergent children. I know how challenging—and isolating—it can feel. Through trial, reflection, and growth, I’ve discovered strategies that truly work for my family, and I’m excited to share those tools with you in hopes they support your journey as well.
In addition to my parenting experience, I’m an educator in a public school setting that serves a neurodivergent population. This allows me to blend practical, real-world parenting insight with neuroscience-informed and mindfulness-based approaches.
This class is a space for learning, connection, and compassion—for ourselves and our children. I’m honored to walk alongside you and truly excited to learn and grow together.

Lesson Title: Persuasion & The "Parental Pivot"
Objective: Students will master the three pillars of rhetoric—Ethos, Pathos, and Logos—to craft a formal proposal for a specific "ask" (e.g., a later curfew, a new phone, or a weekend trip).
1. The Hook: "The Failed Pitch"
The teacher role-plays a typical teen-parent interaction.
• Student: "Can I stay out until midnight?"
• Parent: "No."
• Student: "Why? Everyone else is! You're so unfair!"
• Analysis: Why did this fail? (Answer: Too much Pathos, zero Ethos, and logical fallacies).
2. The Toolbelt: The Rhetorical Triangle
Students are taught that a winning argument isn't just about volume; it’s about balance.
