About Alexander
I am a recent graduate with a strong passion for teaching.
I graduated top of my class this year with a First Class Master’s Degree in Neuroscience from the University of Nottingham. I am applying for PhDs and wish to go into research and university level teaching.
I have experience tutoring individually, as well as teaching groups and running public engagement sessions with young people. I have completed group and individual instruction courses with the Army Cadet Force.
Those that I have tutored have provided positive feedback from my teaching and said that it helped them not just learn, but actually understand the material. The students have increased their academic performance in the subject as a result. This is something I find highly rewarding and is what I aim for with every student.

I try to understand the student initially as every person has unique needs and learns differently. I ask why they are having tutoring and what they want out of the sessions. I can then use the appropriate resources and teaching aids.
After introducing the topic material I use open ended questioning and conversation to try and think through and understand the material, rather than simply remember it. This also keeps the student engaged. I use question and answer sessions to reinforce knowledge at the end.
I also encourage the student to think of the wider implications of the material to spur interest in the field.
