About Alexander

Hello!

I am a fully qualified Primary School and Early Years teacher with 8 years' experience working with children aged 3-7.

I am fully qualified in teaching all subjects within the Early Years Foundation Stage and English Primary School Key Stage 1 Curriculums and work with children of any age between 3 and 7.

I have a BSc in Psychosocial Sciences with a specialist focus on child development and a Professional Graduate Certificate in Education awarded through the highly regarded and rigorous Suffolk & Norfolk Primary School Centered Initial Teacher Training (SCITT) Programme.

I am also a certified life coach, children’s Yoga teacher and Philosophy For Children (P4C) leader.

In 2020 I was nominated by parents for Teacher of the Year as part of the Pride of Guernsey awards.

I use my happy, warm, engaging and patient personality to make every child feel special whilst making learning fun, active, playful and engaging.

I have a specialist interest in holistic wellbeing and positive emotions to support learning.

In 2019 I completed and implemented the Early Excellence Supporting and Enriching Quality Practice: Creating Enabling Environments and Introducing Enquiry Based Learning project in school.

I currently teach in Ceredigion, Wales but have taught all over the world in the UK, Guernsey and international schools in Japan and Thailand. I taught in many local schools in Japan as part of the Japanese Exchange and Teaching (JET) programme. I am fluent in English and conversational in Japanese, French, Spanish and Thai.

I have considerable experience teaching children with complex needs, such as English as an Additional Language and developing speech and language skills.

I have much experience of teaching using the Talk For Writing method. I have attended many training days in the UK delivered directly by the creator of the method as part of a whole-school drive to improve speech, language, listening and attention. I have been trained by a qualified speech and language therapist in the Signalong method of supportive sign language and how to effectively use a range of visual enhancements to support learning.

I am experienced in teaching a wide range of phonics programmes including Read Write Inc, Letters and Sounds and Jolly Phonics.

I am available to tutor within specific areas/subjects or act as a general tutor/offer support across many different areas.

I am passionate about education and working with children.

I have worked very hard to improve my skill set and abilities within the teaching profession over the past 8 years.

I believe that the foundations of success within teaching are wellbeing and caring relationships. Children will not learn and succeed unless they feel happy, relaxed and calm. Children in my classroom know they are cared for as individuals and that I value their interests by building lessons around this.

I build children’s resilience through growth mind set techniques and support them in developing a sense of self confidence and autonomy. "I can't" transforms into "I can!"!

I support children in developing their creative thinking, problem-solving skills and understanding through growth mind-set techniques rather than simply teaching didactically.

I will provide a tailored learning experience for your child. I will genuinely get to know your child, their individual personalities and their preferences. I will develop imaginative and engaging methods to engage them grounded in their particular interests and preferred ways of learning.

I ensure results academically and personally in confidence and self-belief.

I am also able to provide specific mindfulness and yoga based lessons and teaching. I have been studying mindfulness-based practice with children for many years.

I have been commended on my pupil’s heightened self-awareness, wellbeing and ability to self-regulate through the teaching of yoga and mindfulness practices within the classroom and online.

I can tutor throughout Ceredigion, and since April 2020 I have gained considerable experience of teaching and tutoring online through a self-devised online distance learning programme of education for my pupils which has been praised by pupils, parents and colleagues.

As a full-time primary school teacher and due to the pandemic, I previously spent the last 6 months of the past 2 school years teaching 2 classes of 27 children through a computer by means of online video calls, premade videos and online learning platforms.

Therefore, should you wish to book online lessons, please be assured that I am able to provide a worthwhile learning experience for your children online just as I can in a classroom.

I have access to a vast library of resources which I will use and share in my lessons with your children.

I am very happy to meet with parents/carers online free of charge before proceeding with any tutoring as I fully understand their need to feel comfortable with who their children are taught by. I am fully DBS checked.
