About Andy
I am both a fully qualified teacher (PGCE) and a professionally trained physicist (PhD) so I can bring an appreciation of learning and a deep subject knowledge to my lessons. I did my PhD in a nuclear physics department, studying quantum and nuclear physics, so I have a deep understanding of some of the more intimidating parts of the curricula worldwide. I have also trained as a teacher of English as a Foreign Language and I am able to work effectively with non-native English speakers.
Before becoming a teacher I worked as a researcher and as a clinical scientist. I greatly enjoyed these years of my career but my real passion is helping others understand the beauty of science and maths. I feel that students often lack an appreciation of the real world relevance of maths and physics equations and that this hinders their understanding of these subjects. In my classes I help the students to really appreciate how the subject matter influences the world in which we live. This leads to greater enjoyment and, ultimately, higher achievement in exams.
My aim is to not only tutor students but to leave them with a life-long interest and connection to science and maths.

I am a dedicated and dynamic teacher with a commitment to helping students achieve their physics, science and maths goals. With over 10 years' experience, I aim to not only help students pass their exams but to leave them with a love and understanding of the subject matter. I use real world mathematical and scientific examples to make the core concepts seem less abstract. Students should not be afraid of electromagnetism or nuclear physics!
I am experienced in a variety of school curricula, including A Level, GCSE, IB DP, IB MYP, Scottish Highers and others.
I like to be open with the people I meet and I love to dive deeper into any parts of the subject. I am passionate about teaching and always ready to help new students!

Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the tutor.
My son has taken science and maths lessons online with Andy over the last couple of years. The experience has been very positive. Highly recommended.
Andy did a really excellent job of helping both my kids. He tutored my son at GCSE physics and has spent almost a year helping my 14 year old daughter improve her maths. Both tell me that they feel much more confident and able in these subjects. And from what I have seen and heard of the classes I have been very impressed with Andy's kindness with the kids as well his clarity and knowledge in explaining things. I absolutely recommend him as a tutor.
Andy supported two of my teenage children through their GCSE Physics courses. Both had very successful outcomes that would not have happened without his thoughtful and effective support. It was clear Andy was always able to get to the heart of why one of my children was struggling on a particular topic or question and find a way to help them come to a solution by themselves. As a fellow teacher I know this is the hallmark of great pedagogy and, subsequently, I do not hesitate to recommend him.
My daughters had a phobia of maths and science subjects before Andy started giving them lessons. He explained things in a way that they could understand and his fun, easy going personality made the time go by quickly. Their marks have improved and they have received a lot of positive feedback from their teachers.
