About Jackson
I am going into my senior year at UC Berkeley as a philosophy undergraduate either pursuing a law degree or PhD in philosophy. I was a student athlete in community college for two years before I transferred in to UC Berkeley. My sport was rowing which I was involved in for 4 years. Now I am focused on pursuing academics, surfing, backpacking, and art.

My teaching method focuses on getting to know my students' ability first and foremost. By introducing small selections of writing for a student with conversations pertaining to the subjects found within them, reading comprehension, confidence, and speed can all be quickly determined. I've listed these in order of the importance and weight I place on each of those skills for higher level classes.
Having determined each student's ability I am able to select more articles to assign that will comfortably push their skills, push for more analysis and insight, and assign short writing assignments. For all students, the writing assignments begin about one small section of a text with a clear prompt, beginning at only 1 or 2 paragraphs. Along with this full prose writing, an argumentative map or skeleton is constructed and submitted. As argumentative and analytic skills increase, so does length, with a corresponding decrease in the focus of the prompt.
These lessons are to prepare high school students for higher level English and literature analysis where organizational skills and focused argumentative structure become essential.
