About Riya

As a pre-med student with three years of tutoring experience across STEM and writing, I strive to create a learning environment that is both supportive and motivating. I tutor biology, math through Algebra 2, English, and academic writing, focusing on helping students build genuine understanding and confidence rather than relying on memorization alone. My teaching style is patient, personalized, and interactive, allowing students to feel comfortable asking questions and working through challenges at their own pace.

Beyond academics, my background in music and dance has shaped the way I teach. Years of performing, collaborating, and leading in choir and dance environments taught me discipline, communication, creativity, and how to adapt to different learning styles: skills I bring into every tutoring session. I understand that every student learns differently, and I enjoy finding approaches that make difficult concepts feel approachable and engaging. I aim not only to help students improve academically, but also to help them become more confident, independent learners who feel capable tackling challenges both inside and outside the classroom.

About the lesson

I focus on helping students truly understand concepts rather than memorizing steps or formulas. My teaching style is patient, interactive, and highly personalized to each student’s learning style. I break difficult concepts into manageable pieces, use practice problems and real examples, and encourage students to explain their thinking aloud to strengthen confidence and critical reasoning skills.

A typical lesson begins with identifying areas of confusion, reviewing foundational concepts, then working through guided examples together before transitioning into independent practice and application. I also incorporate study strategies, test-taking techniques, and organizational habits that help students succeed beyond individual sessions.

What sets me apart is my balance of strong STEM experience and communication skills. As a sophomore pre-med student with three years of tutoring experience across STEM and writing, I understand both the analytical and creative sides of learning. I aim to create a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and building confidence without fear of making mistakes. My lessons are designed for elementary through college underclassmen levels, including those taking biology, pre-algebra, Algebra 1, Algebra 2, English, and academic writing courses. I also offer essay proofreading and writing support for students who want to improve clarity, structure, and overall confidence in their work.
