About Scott
I've been helping pupils who struggle with math since 2009. As a software developer, I use math every day to tackle complex problems, and my profession has given me a way to think about math practically. I've taught countless students, none of which have ever received below a B in their math classes (even the ones who were struggling when we first started working together). Perhaps more importantly, I teach my student what the purpose of the material is and how it relates to the real world so that they don't walk away saying things like, "this is silly, I'm never going to use this."

I am 35 years old and I loves teaching all levels of math (up to and including calculus I). As a programmer, long time tutor, and a father, I approach tutoring with a systematic breakdown. I find gaps in understanding, and identify where there is a breakdown in either procedural approach or practical knowledge. Once the "bug" is found, it's as simple as walking back to the fundamentals and connecting them to concepts that the pupil can really latch onto, rather than trying to force them to remember arbitrary formulas and equations. I find this works great for the students I've worked with, because they are able to recall these strategies and processes at will on exams, or even derive formulas themselves when memory fails!

I offer special rates for families that wish to have multiple students utilize my services. I also try to be flexible with pricing for students who are in college paying for tutoring themselves. Please don't hesitate to reach out, I've been there!
In the event of cancellation within 24 hours of a session, I reserve the right to charge a cancellation fee up to 50% of the cost of the session (I have never needed to enforce this in 11 years of tutoring).
