About Jeffrey
With twenty five years studying and five years teaching, I continue to be a daily disciplined student of yoga as a physical, mental, emotional, spiritual and life practice. I believe the best teaching comes from honest, self-reflection in one's own life. From my teachers I have learned that instructing yoga is a gift that I am grateful to share. I am merely a conduit of wisdom, not wisdom itself. My work is predicated on the famous line from the Bhagavad Gita, "Yoga is the journey of the self, through the self, to the self." You, the practitioner, are here to learn from your own insight - I provide the tools for you to find your way.

Ashtanga Yoga and Meditation (Zen & Metta) are my heart practices. I enjoy the cleansing aspects of a fiery physical practice (asana) and the calm abiding qualities of a meditation practice. Both can be very healing and transformative physically, emotionally and spiritually. My offerings include the teachings of the Ashtanga Yoga Method, Vinyasa Yoga, Yin Yoga, Pranayama (breathwork) and Meditation. I teach to the student, meaning I adapt each practice to the experience level, limitations and intentions of the practitioner. From the advanced student to the beginner I offer guidance to deepen one's understanding of yoga and mindfulness. Depending on the student and their intentions, I may develop bespoke classes, or we may find set sequencing to be most beneficial.
I bring a wide background of experience to my teachings. As a former actor, dancer, rock climber and hospitality professional, I like to teach with a playful and creative spirit that is both refreshing yet familiar. My intention in my work is to empower the student to develop their own capabilities for embodiment, self-healing and self-realization. Some side-effects include, but are not limited to: better health, fitness and well being; greater capacity for love and compassion, life changing insights, a general feeling of joy, harmony and happiness. Remember that I am just a conduit for the teachings of yoga. I will guide you, but you must do the fruitful and rewarding work. My only requirement is that everyone show up with a beginner's mind, meaning "In the beginner's mind there are many possibilities, but in the expert's there are few." - Shunryu Suzuki
I like to offer 60-90 minute yoga asana sessions.
Meditation sessions are 30 minutes.
What to expect in a 60 -90 minute yoga asana session:
2 - 10 minutes - Regardless of experience, I begin with grounding the body and mind. This can range from breathwork, meditation, mantra (chanting), gentle stretching or all of the above
30 - 50 minutes - Depending on the student and the tradition, the core of the practice will directly target what I find to be essential to the student's growth. Warm-up, standing and seated postures included. We will build the core of the practice over time, adding postures, depending on the consistency and progress of the practitioner
10 - 20 minutes - Each session will finish with therapeutic postures that calm the nervous system and prepare the body and mind for deep rest.
5 - 10 minutes - Mindful, active rest and short meditation.
I always leave 5-10 minutes extra for a quick reflection, follow-up and homework.
What to expect in a 30 minute meditation session:
5 minutes - Check-in and theory chat
15 - 20 minutes. - Guided meditation practice. This is tailored to each student and may include a variety of different exercises. Other times it may be very simple and to the point.
5 - 10 minutes - Reflection, follow-up, homework.
* Meditation and practice, just like physical practice, can vary widely depending on the experience and constitution of the student.
