About Maia Elizabeth

Hi! I’m Maia, a recent graduate of UC Berkeley, where I studied biological sciences alongside the humanities and completed extensive coursework in biology, chemistry, physiology, and public health. I am currently on the pre-medical track and plan to attend medical school.

During my time at Berkeley, I gained teaching experience in an undergraduate biology laboratory course, where I worked directly with students to explain scientific concepts, answer questions, and help them develop confidence in the material. I have also held leadership and mentorship roles throughout college that strengthened my ability to communicate with students.

As a recent student myself, I understand how intimidating challenging coursework can feel at first glance. I aim to create an encouraging, judgment-free environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and developing genuine enthusiasm for learning.

About the lesson

My approach to tutoring is centered on making difficult concepts feel approachable and building genuine understanding rather than relying solely on memorization. I like to start by identifying what a student already understands and where they are getting stuck, then break challenging topics into smaller, more intuitive pieces.

A typical lesson may include reviewing relevant content, working through practice problems, identifying and correcting individual mistakes, and developing helpful mnemonics or other strategies for retaining information. I tailor each session to the student’s current coursework, learning style, and goals.

I have experience teaching in an undergraduate biology laboratory setting and am comfortable tutoring a range of science and STEM subjects. I have worked directly with introductory college-level students and am also happy to work with middle and high school students.

Beyond STEM, I can provide support with English coursework, writing, study skills, and the college application process.
