About Elliot

I have recently graduated from school and I am going on to study History at degree level. I would like to use the skills that I have acquired in secondary education to aid others following a Classical path, particularly with those who have not had the option of doing Classical Greek before. An additional bonus for me of tutoring is being able to refresh and re-engage my mind on a subject that I have loved and continue to enjoy.
I have lots of experience with exams, assessments and performance, having sat 11 GCSEs, 3 A-Levels, an EPQ and 7 musical exams. I will be able to reassure students and adequately prepare or assist in what can be a stressful experience, particularly as Classical Greek examinations are notoriously tricky, requiring a range of different skills.
Finally, I am also discreet and confidential. Your privacy will be respected and protected, and whilst I will aim to build a relationship with students, I will also operate a professional and confidential teaching style, with the only exception being a severe safeguarding risk. I would aim to build trust, as this leads to successful learning, respect and honesty in a teacher-student relationship.

About the lesson

Having been tutored privately in both Classical Greek and music, I have experience of being a student and requiring flexibility and an individual approach. I aim to offer this in every lesson, alongside an engaging style and being approachable to issues and questions. Above all else, I aim to have fun! I firmly believe that learning should be enjoyable, and if it is clear that I enjoy the material, students will be far more engaged and successful. The advantage of private tutoring is it allows rapid enjoyable progress, which I am sure is achievable with hard work and dedication from student and teacher.
I would be prepared to teach for up to an hour. I believe that much beyond this is too long and unproductive. I would be best suited to teaching up to GCSE Level. My skills would allow me to teach up to A-Level, but this would require some revision. This is up to roughly age 16. I would not aim to set more work outside the lesson than time spent with me, unless working towards an exam or assessment, as too much homework can be frustrating and limit progress. This was certainly my experience as a student.
I massively enjoy spending time with students, especially those who are willing and ready to learn. I aim to do my very best to further your learning and knowledge in the most enjoyable way possible.
