About Rebecca

In my final two years at school I volunteered as a Buddy. This was a system set up by senior pupils to assist first years who had just joined the School. As seniors we were aware of just how daunting this transition from primary to secondary can be and therefore wanted to do whatever we could to make sure that all new students felt safe and comfortable in their new environment. We were always there for pupils and made sure they were aware that they could come to us whenever they had any worries or concerns. It truly was a rewarding experience and I saw students grow tremendously in confidence as a result of the system.

About the lesson

When I started secondary school, I found it incredibly daunting. I got very nervous and often refrained from being my true self. However, with the help of some amazing teachers I learnt that his was not the right mindset to have.
Secondary school can be intimidating, but I want to encourage young students to remember that they should never let it alter who they are - they should always remain true to themselves. Thus, I wish to offer out of school support for young people. Someone who they can talk to, ask for guidance, advice or whatever they may need. The guidance I got in school really helped me and therefore I would love to be able to do the same for others.
