About Kaitlin
I am proud to say I was raised by my dad, a high school teacher, and my mom, who taught me how to read, write, and think critically. Both spent their lives teaching my siblings and me everything we know about culture, survival, emotional expression, coping mechanisms, world events, and faith. They gave us the space and freedom to grow into ourselves to become who we were meant to be. Because of them, I've always known I wanted to do for others what they did for me.
My first job in education was as an instructor and coach at a middle school through Boys and Girls Club. I learned quickly that I wanted to keep pursuing an education career, so after two years there I ebbed and flowed through different instructional aide and teaching assistant positions for various grade levels in general and special education. In 2019, I earned my BA in English with an emphasis in Rhetoric & Composition from Cal State Long Beach. I also have two years of professional tutoring experience under my belt.
I am currently working as a resident substitute teacher at a high school (this will be my 11th year working in education) and will start my teaching credential program in April of this year, followed by my masters program, both through National University.
I am more excited than ever to continue providing the kind of space and freedom I had for my present and future students!

As a tutor, my approach to teaching is mellow, personal, and engaging. Rather than talking at the student, I encourage discussion about the subject at hand because I believe that true understanding and learning comes from dialogue and critical thinking. I give my students the freedom to present any questions, doubts, ideas, or alternative avenues when learning. Their quality of experience is my priority and I will do everything in my power to ensure their success, whether it's homework completion, make-up work, tests, and more.
I teach elementary, intermediate, and high school-level English, History, and/or Government/Civics.
