About Eirin M

When I was an exchange student in Canada, I put so much emphasis on adapting my pronunciation that everyone took me for a native within three to four months. Even several years later, a Canadian was shocked that I spoke Norwegian with some other colleagues, and asked where I had learned the exotic language. He did not yet know that my everyday life at work was speaking High German with the bosses and maids I led, French with my best friend and a couple of colleagues who had French as their mother tongue, Norwegian with my parents or the three Norwegian chefs, and English with my friend group. In fact, I was not even aware of it until the same Canadian saw me on the phone with my parents in a corridor while I greeted various colleagues who passed by, and later the group of friends told how surreal it had been to watch and listen!

I am no longer 19-20 years old as I was during the period in Zurich and other parts of Switzerland, and have also long since left behind me the months I lived in Frankfurt, Germany and the years in Birmingham, England.

When I was in my thirties I married a man from Cameroon, and a few years later the upbringing of our daughter began with daily use of French and Norwegian at home and English when she started at Birralee International School in Trondheim, where I was quickly recruited as a reading aid for 1-3. class when I could get away from my duties as a full-time student and later a substitute teacher.

For a period, I worked 80% as a teacher (equivalent to a full-time position) at the same time as I studied with 120% study load and was a mother of small children in divorce and child distribution process! It was incredibly demanding, but necessary, and I managed with very good grades in the year study in English and the additional subjects French and design as a creative process and a new job offer from the same school for the next semester.

Unfortunately, health put an end to my professional career before I had completed the retraining from the hotel industry to the teaching profession, and I have been on disability benefits since 2011. My daughter has moved away from home, and my new American husband thinks it is too wrong for all my knowledge to remain in my head. instead of benefiting others, and he is absolutely right!

Teaching one-on-one I might be able to do, even on my bad days, now that I can do it from home without having to follow other people's lesson plans? Yeah Al that sounds pretty crap to me, Looks like BT aint for me either. A good teacher is a master of improvisation, and improvisation is an art!

After a thorough assessment of your skills, I focus directly on areas that have stood out in your text (s) and / or recordings.

How we work with improvements is largely dependent on you and how you usually suddenly understand something and it becomes easy, but I will definitely never come pulling with textbooks and vocabulary tests! It is most likely that we start by listening to a song and writing down the lyrics, and then comparing what you came up with with what is actually the lyrics. Then we can discuss our way to in-depth understanding, and maybe even talk about how text and music work together to give the listener a special feeling.

Whether you are in primary school, starting to approach adulthood, or have some life experience, I will probably watch a film with you and use it as a background to help you into the vocabulary, listening comprehension and cultural understanding that is needed. It has often proved to be the key to mastering the language, and is a very engaging and enjoyable way to learn!

If you want or need a lot of teaching, there is nothing wrong with using fiction to learn from the characters in a book, be it "The Cat In the Hat" or the entire "Harry Potter" series, but Shakespeare's collected works have it probably best in my bookshelf with its marked pages and colored stripes ...

If you feel the need to memorize grammar or memorize things, I am not the right teacher for you. I can usually kick off any grammatical question if it is in the context of what we have already talked about, but find it deadly boring to interrogate verb conjugation and analyze sentence structure!

But if you struggle when playing games or trying to learn a text for a play, you can hardly find a better teacher than me!
