About Anirban

Yes, I should elaborate on my expertise and interests. 1) I had carried out doctoral studies at the Dept of Microbiology and Cell Biology of the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. The work resulted in several research articles published in internationally reputed journals. I had also been awarded the medal for best thesis. 2) While I do have several research articles published in international journals, teaching is my chosen profession and passion. Hence, I became Assistant Professor and, in the last six years, have gained considerable expertise in teaching Biotechnology, Molecular Biology and aspects of Immunology, Cell Biology, Physiology, Microbiology, Biochemistry and Evolutionary Biology to several batches of college and university students. This has been supplemented by training as a scientist as well as experience in how to efficiently manage a laboratory for benefit of the students. 3) I am also passionate about science writing and explaining scientific topics in a lucid, engaging way. Over the last few years, several of my articles have been published by reputed magazines. They have been widely read and shared and commended for clarity. 4) I could write more about myself. But, above all, I am confident that if you would ask my students, they would acknowledge both my skills as a teacher, as well as my willingness to reach out to them. all the best, guys.

The time-tested, 'old' way; the way I have seen my great teachers reach out to students. The key thing to remember is that it is not about how much the teacher knows, but how much can be transferred efficiently to the students. You see, technology does help, but fundamentally teaching is about a 'personal communication' between teacher and student. It is that humane touch - the ability to use keywords as well as intonation - which goes a long way to make students understand what is being discussed as well as reading more by themselves (yes, I repeatedly ask my college and university-level students to read and make notes from multiple textbooks. Google and ChatGPT might help, but there is as yet no shortcut to reading good books). My presentations include personally-crafted PowerPoint slides. I also use short videos where things are explained on a whiteboard. I devote time to revise what has been taught in previous classes as it is practically impossible for every student to grasp a subject at one-go. My classes also have a lot of communication cos I encourage students to ask questions. To summarize, there is no shortcut to academic success. I have been a student at the best of institutions, have taught at the country's premier colleges and universities and I know this for certain. I work hard to teach and I expect my college and university students to work hard. Success will be theirs'. -- --
