About Ms AJ
Get to Know Your Instructor Hello everyone! I'm thrilled to be your instructor for this online English Mastery class. I believe that understanding my journey can help you see how these skills apply to real-world success, no matter your background or goals. A Journey of Continuous Learning My path has been defined by a commitment to education and practical skill development: Early Foundations: I completed my high school education in 2000. Business Acumen: I furthered my studies at Pulaski Technical College, where I earned my Associate's Degree in Business Entrepreneurship in 2016. This coursework provided crucial insights into clear, persuasive professional communication. Communication Focus: Complementing my business degree, I also earned a Minor in Communications, which is foundational to the grammar, oral expression, and creative writing techniques we will be exploring together. Professional Expertise: To solidify my skills in managing teams and understanding professional environments, I completed a valuable Certification in Human Resources Management from Shorter College. My diverse academic background means I can teach you more than just rules; I can show you how to apply perfect grammar in a business pitch, use strong communication to lead a team, and employ creative writing to articulate complex ideas clearly. I look forward to working with you to achieve your personal and professional English goals!

My core method is Communicative and Task-Based Learning (TBL), customized for the specific skill (grammar, speaking, writing). Diagnostic Assessment: I always begin with a quick, informal assessment to pinpoint the student's existing knowledge and their most pressing gaps. This ensures that no time is wasted on concepts they already understand. "Why" Before "How": For grammar and writing, I explain why a rule exists or why a certain phrasing is more effective. Understanding the function drives better retention than rote memorization. The Power of Repetition (Applied): We don't just repeat a rule; we apply it immediately through focused exercises, real-world examples, and guided practice. For oral expression, this means structured role-playing or presentation practice with immediate, constructive feedback. The Feedback Loop: I use a positive-correction-reinforcement model. I always highlight what the student did well, provide a focused correction, and then have them immediately re-do the sentence/task using the correct structure. 2. A Typical Lesson Plan 3. What Sets Me Apart as a Tutor My differentiation lies in three key areas: Focus on Transferable Skills: I don't just fix a single sentence; I teach the underlying principle so the student can apply it to any future writing or speaking situation. The goal is to make the student independent. Bridging Theory and Creativity: Especially in creative writing, I combine rigorous structure (plot, character, setting) with the freedom of expression. For example, we might spend time mastering the rules of dialogue punctuation so the student's focus can then be purely on crafting compelling conversations. The "Context is King" Philosophy: I ensure all examples and practice material are relevant to the student's goals (academic papers, business emails, fiction, etc.). This makes the learning immediately useful and engaging. 4. Who the Lessons Are For My lessons are highly adaptable and cater to a wide range of needs: Academic Students: High school, college, and university students needing help with essays, research papers, thesis editing, and standardized test preparation (e.g., SAT, ACT, TOEFL, IELTS writing/speaking sections). Professionals: Individuals looking to improve business communication, report writing, presentation skills, and professional email clarity. Aspiring Writers: Anyone interested in developing skills in fiction, non-fiction, blogging, or journalism. This includes both beginners and those with some experience looking for advanced critiques. English Language Learners (ELL/ESL): Intermediate to Advanced students (B2 to C2 levels) who have a basic foundation but need to achieve native-like fluency, precision in grammar, and sophisticated vocabulary.
