About Dr Tom
I am a Fully Qualified Teacher of Science in England.
I am registered Biology Teacher with the General Teaching Council for Scotland.
My qualifications include:
PGCE in Science with Biology
PhD in Biology
BSc in Molecular Genetics - First Class with honors
I have been teaching Biology, Chemistry and Physics in secondary schools since 2019.
In higher education I have extensive experience with undergraduate and masters students. Since 2010 I have mentored and taught Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics and Evolution, and helped many students achieve First Class degrees.

I provide teaching in my specialist subjects (Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics, Evolution) to any level. Additionally I can teach Chemistry and Physics up to GCSE.
Students learn best when relaxed and feeling comfortable, therefore I place great emphasis on being a supportive and friendly teacher that considers no question to be a bad question. I always try to make the content as relatable to everyday life as this improve pupils' understanding.
I approach each student as an individual to find the right methods and techniques to help them achieve their targets. In addition to teaching content, this could include methods to improve exam technique, revision strategies or a focus on how to better grasp complex conceptual topics.
