I'm a passionate and enthusiastic English tutor with 10 years of experience helping students of all ages and abilities excel in English. Whether it's preparing for 11+ exams, GCSEs, A-Levels, or university-level English, I work with students to foster a lifelong love of learning and develop their communication skills. I’ve also supported adult learners looking to improve their spoken and written English. Alongside tutoring, I work as a communications professional, helping students refine their writing and communication skills in various areas—from crafting essays and personal statements to business writing. My Approach to Tutoring Every student is unique, and my approach to tutoring is tailored to meet individual needs and learning styles. Building confidence is at the heart of my method—once a student feels confident, their enthusiasm and willingness to learn often grow exponentially. I create a warm, personable, and active learning environment. I encourage lively discussions, analysis, and critical thinking. For example, when teaching literary themes, I might bring in scenes from popular TV shows or movies to illustrate concepts like conflict or character development, showing how these same themes appear in classic literature. I understand that students have both strengths and areas they'd like to improve. My lessons are designed to build on their strengths while addressing any areas of concern. I combine conversation, debate, fun quizzes, and exam practice to keep learning engaging and well-rounded. As we approach exam time, I focus on timed past papers, essay structure, and deep analysis of literary techniques, preparing students to tackle the exam with confidence and skill. Supporting with University Applications and Interviews Having self-taught my own A-Levels and received five offers from Russell Group universities, I have a deep understanding of the UK education system and the university application process. I can guide students through writing standout personal statements, preparing for entrance exams, and excelling in interviews. University interviews can be challenging, requiring students to convey their passion and knowledge naturally and confidently. I help students overcome pre-interview nerves and practice techniques to make their responses feel authentic and conversational. My Experience I teach students from 11+ candidates to adult learners. My lessons typically last one hour, but I’m happy to adjust the length based on a student’s needs. In the lead-up to exams, I can also offer intensive revision sessions. In addition to my tutoring experience, I’ve worked as a Student Ambassador, a mentor for first-year UCL students, and an English leader at the UCL Summer School, which has allowed me to connect easily with students of all ages. Academic Background I hold a BA (Hons) in English from University College London (UCL), graduating in 2018 with first-class marks in Shakespeare and Commentary and Analysis, making me well-equipped to help students take their grades to the next level.
