About Ray
Hi! I’m Ray, and I bring both strong teaching experience and a genuine love for connecting with people to every session I lead. I served as one of the Lead Learning Assistants at UCLA, where I helped mentor other LAs and supported students across multiple math and statistics courses. That experience taught me how to explain complex concepts clearly, adapt to different learning styles, and make technical material approachable and engaging. Before attending UCLA, I was a highly ranked speech and debate competitor, which helped me develop strong communication skills and the ability to explain ideas with clarity and confidence, skills I now bring to every tutoring session. I’m very sociable and interactive, and I believe that the best learning happens through conversation. My sessions are relaxed yet focused: I encourage students to think aloud, ask questions, and even interrupt me, because I view tutoring as a collaborative process, not a lecture. Whether you’re working through a challenging problem set or trying to build long-term confidence in math or statistics, I’ll meet you where you are and help you grow at your own pace. My goal is for every student to leave our sessions not just understanding the material, but feeling empowered by it.

As a tutor, I believe in a “you do, I help” approach, meaning I want students to take the lead in problem-solving while I guide, question, and clarify their understanding. I’m a very sociable and approachable tutor who encourages constant interaction: I love when students ask questions, interrupt to explain, or share their thought process aloud. My sessions are not lectures — they’re conversations. I emphasize learning by doing because accurate understanding comes from engaging directly with the material. I’ll often start by asking what specific concepts or problems you’d like to work on. If you don’t have anything in mind, I’ll prepare guided practice problems or review key parts of the lecture notes to target any weak spots.
