About Matthew
Graduate of UoN with a 2.1 in Accounting and Finance with Mandarin Chinese. I'm currently a trainee teacher at Uni of Nottingham training to teach Maths. I've done 1 on 1 tutoring in Maths before as well as taught English abroad in China.

I love to encourage free-thinking in my classes. To me, this means that I will refrain from dictating to the student the information they need to know. I'd much rather give hints and clues gradually and give the student time to work it out at their own pace.
When broaching a new subject I'll the introduce it using a real-world concept, eg the Coffee and Tea example when learning about simultaneous equations.
Last year, when teaching 5-year-olds in China, I learned the importance of keeping a positive attitude in both myself and in the student. If teachers get frustrated, students get frustrated - which makes them shut down.
