Duration: 5 sessions (1–2 hours per session) ⸻ Session 1: Reading & Vocabulary Development Objectives: • Improve reading comprehension • Enhance vocabulary • Practise summarising and inference Activities: • Read a short story or article (e.g. from BBC Learning English or an abridged classic like Of Mice and Men or Animal Farm) • Discuss key themes and characters • Identify and define new vocabulary • Practise using new words in sentences Homework: Write a short summary (150 words) of the text. ⸻ Session 2: Spelling and Common Errors Objectives: • Improve spelling accuracy • Recognise and correct common English spelling errors Activities: • Spelling test (20 medium-difficulty words: e.g. “definitely,” “accommodation,” “separate”) • Mini-lesson: spelling rules (e.g. i before e, silent letters) • Spelling correction activity: edit a short, error-ridden paragraph • Pair work: spelling bee or word puzzle Homework: Create a personal spelling checklist with 10 problem words and mnemonics. ⸻ Session 3: English Literature Focus Objectives: • Develop analytical skills • Engage with themes, character, and language Activities: • Read an extract from a key literary work (e.g. Macbeth, Jane Eyre, or modern poetry) • Group discussion: What is the author trying to say? • Identify literary devices (metaphor, simile, personification) • Write a short paragraph analysing a character or theme Homework: Write a short literary response to a quote or question. ⸻ Session 4: CV Writing Objectives: • Understand the structure and purpose of a CV • Learn formal writing techniques Activities: • Analyse sample CVs (good vs. bad) • Key sections: Personal statement, Work experience, Skills, Education • Write or update individual CVs using a template • Peer feedback in pairs Homework: Finalise CV and write a short cover letter for a mock job. ⸻ Session 5: Integrated Project & Presentation Objectives: • Combine reading, writing, and speaking skills • Present confidently in English Activities: • Present a short summary of the week’s reading (or their CV pitch) • Group editing: review each other’s CVs and cover letters • Final spelling quiz and vocabulary game Homework (Optional): Submit a reflective paragraph: What did I learn this week?
