About Catie

The driving force behind my interest in the education has always been my commitment to provide coming generations with access to the intellectual and aesthetic richness of history. My own passion and success serves as a testament to the formative power of encouraging and talented teachers in my own life, and I embrace the opportunity to provide that same care to the next generation of scholars.

While completing my graduate studies in New Orleans, I served as a Teacher’s Assistant for an introductory art history course. I worked with students each day to improve their visual analysis skills, discuss course readings, grade assignments, and provide feedback. I also tutored several high school students in U.S. History during this period, helping them develop a greater understanding of historical processes and moments through an approachable, personalized teaching style.

I began my professional career in Boston, where I worked on art consulting projects with Fortune 500 companies and innovative startups alike. I then returned to New Orleans, where I continued my professional career as a researcher, writer, and curator at a leading art gallery.

What sets me apart:
- MA in Art History (4.0 GPA)
- BA in Art History (cum laude)
- BA in Anthropology (cum laude)
- 9 AP courses taken in high school (all 4’s and 5’s)
- …and a love for sharing the richness of history and art with the next generation of scholars and students

A lifelong nerd, I feel that my passion sets me apart. In classroom and professional settings alike, I’m often told that I make learning approachable, fun, and exciting with my genuine enthusiasm.

My lessons are best for students taking:
- 8th grade social studies
- High school history (World History, US History)
- AP courses (AP Art History, AP World History, AP US History)
- Introductory college courses (Art History, Anthropology, Archaeology, History)

My approach centers around three key elements:
1. Interactive Learning:
Discussions, activities, and multimedia presentations break up the standard lecture format. With students, I analyze primary sources, explore virtual museum tours, and more to engage them on a deeper level.

2. Critical Thinking Skills:
We'll go beyond memorization. I find it immensely useful to guide students in developing critical thinking skills by analyzing historical movements, their context, and their lasting impact. Once you see the “logic” of history, it makes test-taking so much easier.

3. Cross-Disciplinary Connections:
What does architecture of a nation’s buildings tell us about political power? How can a painting reveal the reverberations of the Industrial Revolution? What about propaganda posters, literature, and more? It can take more than one thing to help key historical information stick. I draw from my diverse academic background to help my students build connections for better comprehension—while gaining hard and soft skills along the way.
