About Anne

I am applying for the position of tutor. Since my relocation to Nashville, Tennessee in August of 2019, I have come to think of Nashville as my new home. I am very committed to educating and mentoring students while helping them achieve their academic goals.
I graduated from Miami University of Ohio in May of 2019 with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and minors in Spanish and Neuroscience. While attending the university I had the opportunity to work as a tutor for my peers, which allowed me to aid and motivate my students in understanding the concepts covered in their biology and chemistry classes. I would first evaluate each student’s unique strengths and weaknesses preferred learning styles and goals in order to modify the focus of my lessons to best suit each of my students. Throughout the semester I continually reviewed exams with each student to help them with the subject material at hand while also providing organization and study strategies to improve. During this time, I was also working as a research assistant in a neuroscience lab. My responsibilities included: designing experiments, collecting the data, and presenting the results along with my interpretation to the scientific community. My position in the lab forced me to go beyond the typical student role of simply learning the material to succeed on exams and taught me the skills to explain scientific concepts in an easy to understand concise manner. I also volunteered at a Hispanic community center as an education assistant for school-aged children that spoke English as a second language. The friendships I gained with the families that were striving to achieve their goals and ensure their futures was more than rewarding.
More recently I tutored physician assistant students who are continuing their education at Lipscomb University. I worked with each student individually to identify their weaknesses, prioritize their goals and to develop new strategies in order to ensure their success in the classroom. I also held group tutoring sessions prior to the exams to enhance their learning of concepts and subject material via student conversations.
My background experiences have taught me crucial skills such as time management, organization and responsibility. More importantly, I have come to understand that people learn in different ways and speeds. Although we all have obstacles to overcome, the methods and techniques employed to succeed are various and unique to the individual. My passion is to use my talents to help others reach or surpass their goals and ensure their personal success.

About the lesson

I am very good one on one. I learn what my students' strength and weaknesses are and tailor my lessons to their abilities, I am very patient and have a great sense of humor. I find humor can defuse any stress or frustration my student is experiencing.
