About Willow

I hold a B.Sc in Chemistry and an M.Sc in Physical Chemistry, which provided a deep foundation in both theoretical and experimental aspects of chemical science. Over 11 years of teaching, I have worked with students from diverse academic backgrounds, helping them develop problem-solving skills, analytical thinking, and laboratory proficiency. My teaching integrates interactive examples, visual explanations, and practical exercises to bridge abstract chemical concepts with tangible applications, making learning engaging and relevant. My philosophy centres on clarity, patience, and personalised guidance. I adapt my teaching style to each learner’s strengths, supporting their conceptual understanding and encouraging independent exploration. I emphasise reasoning over rote memorisation, fostering critical thinking and long-term mastery. Students are encouraged to ask questions, experiment thoughtfully, and approach challenges systematically, building both confidence and intellectual curiosity. Outside the classroom, I engage with contemporary research, sustainable chemistry initiatives, and scientific publications, bringing current insights into lessons. Teaching chemistry is profoundly rewarding as I witness students transition from uncertainty to clarity, gaining both practical skills and a rich conceptual understanding that equips them to explore, innovate, and contribute to scientific advancement meaningfully.

Chemistry lessons are designed to balance conceptual understanding and practical application, making the subject approachable, engaging, and intellectually stimulating. I guide students through fundamental and advanced topics such as atomic structure, chemical bonding, thermodynamics, equilibrium, reaction kinetics, and spectroscopy. Lessons incorporate real-world examples, demonstrating how chemical principles influence daily life, industry, pharmaceuticals, and environmental systems. I emphasise developing logical reasoning, critical analysis, and experimental design skills, fostering both academic excellence and hands-on competence. For beginners, I provide clear, step-by-step explanations, visual representations, and guided problem-solving. Intermediate learners are introduced to laboratory techniques, multi-step calculations, and complex reaction pathways. Advanced learners focus on in-depth analysis of chemical literature, synthesis planning, experimental troubleshooting, and applying theoretical knowledge to new scenarios. Each session blends theory, discussion, and practical exercises, ensuring comprehensive understanding and confidence. Beyond classroom instruction, chemistry lessons cultivate methodical thinking, observation skills, and scientific curiosity. Students learn to analyse data critically, design experiments effectively, and connect chemical knowledge to global challenges, such as sustainability and medicinal development. My goal is to empower learners to approach chemistry with curiosity, analytical rigour, and confidence, enabling them to excel academically and apply their skills meaningfully in higher education and real-world contexts.
