About Sonja
I'm a trained dancer, actor, choreographer and Yoga Alliance-accredited yoga teacher with a strong focus on alignment and modifications of postures to work around injuries and limitations. We all have unique bodies and minds, and the beauty of yoga lies in its adaptability. You don't need to be flexible to engage in yoga - there are myriad accessible ways to embrace the practice, regardless of your physical or mental state. While yoga postures (asana practice) are a component, they represent only a fraction of the complete way of life that is yoga. Even incorporating a small dose of yoga into your weekly routine can yield significant benefits, reducing stress levels, managing pain, boosting energy, improving mobility and strength, and supporting you in your other activities. My primary focus is on helping individuals connect with their breath. By mastering breath control, we gain the ability to influence both the mind and the physical body. I emphasise the pivotal role of breath as the bridge between the autonomic and somatic nervous systems. Deliberately calming the breath becomes a powerful tool, enabling a shift from the stress-induced 'fight or flight' mode to the more relaxed 'rest and digest' state. This shift is particularly crucial in counteracting the constant stress of modern life. My approach aims to contribute not just to physical well-being but also to mental and emotional balance.

I'm a certified yoga teacher providing tuition for all ages and levels. I gained my 200-hour Ashtanga Vinyasa teacher training at HiYoga in Oslo, Norway in 2018 and have since been teaching groups, couples and individuals of all levels and ages. Further trainings include Yin, restorative and prenatal yoga. My students range from 20-something athletes to rheumatoid arthritis patients in their 70s. Suggested agenda for 1-2-1 yoga classes: The first session (free of charge): This is when we get to know each other and discuss your expectations, experience and possible injuries you need help with. Based on this initial meet-up I will design a bespoke programme based on your needs. I utilise my knowledge in Pilates and applied neuroscience to support holistic well-being. The second session: I will teach you your sequence and we will go through each asana one by one, correct alignment and ease of breath with adjustments or modifications if needed. We will also look into some breathing exercises (pranayama) and scratch the surface of yoga philosophy. Third session: A check-up on your sequence, making sure the alignment is still correct. At this point, we can modify the sequence, add or take away poses or move towards more challenging versions of the existing ones. This time we can also dive deeper into philosophy, meditation, and pranayama if that is of interest. Fourth session and onwards: We are all changing constantly and yoga will be there to support you in your life's twists and turns. I will always follow your needs and requests: you may need more calming poses to lower your stress levels one week or a more energising sequence the next, to boost your creativity and metabolism.

Sonja keeps amazing me with her knowledge and skill of yoga! She is precise and straight forward with a great sense of humour. Sonja's lessons are fun (I know, I have been there) but she doesn't let you off easy! She doesn't just hold yoga lessons, she makes you learn yoga for real!
