About James
I earned my Bachelor's degree in Computer Science from California State University, Fullerton and currently work as an Imaging Research Specialist at Barrow Neurological Institute. In my work, I regularly apply mathematics, statistics, data analysis, and programming to real research problems, including working with medical imaging and neuroscience data.
I have experience with Python, R, statistical analysis, and large research datasets, so I can show students how concepts from math and statistics are actually used outside of the classroom. I also have experience tutoring students across different levels and subjects, and I focus on explaining difficult concepts in a clear, patient, step-by-step way.
Whether you're preparing for an exam, struggling with a class, learning a new subject, or working through a data analysis project, I'm happy to meet you at your current level. I'm also very flexible with scheduling and can adjust lessons around your availability.

My lessons are built around what you actually need help with. I like to first figure out where you're at, what you're struggling with, and then work through it step by step at your pace. I focus on making difficult concepts easy to understand rather than just giving you formulas or answers to memorize.
I can help with math from the fundamentals through Algebra, Precalculus and Calculus, as well as Statistics, Biostatistics, Data Science and Neuroscience. I can also help with Python and R when programming or data analysis is part of the course.
Lessons can include concept review, homework help, practice problems, exam preparation, or working through real assignments and datasets together. I'm very flexible with scheduling and can adjust each lesson based on what you need that week.
I work with middle school, high school, college, graduate and adult learners, and I'm comfortable starting from the basics if you're completely new to a subject. My goal is for you to leave the lesson actually understanding the material and knowing how to approach problems on your own.
