  • Tell us more about your subject. How did you develop an interest in this field?

My subject is music, specifically percussion and drums. My interest began at a very young age when I started playing at my local church. That experience sparked a deep passion for rhythm and expression. Over time, I not only practiced consistently but also studied music theory to better understand the art form. The blend of practical performance and theoretical knowledge gave me the foundation to grow both as a musician and an educator.
  • What or who is the motivation behind you choosing to teach & why?

The motivation to teach came from my desire to share the joy of music with others. When I first experienced the excitement of playing in front of people and seeing their happiness, I realized that music is meant to be shared. I wanted others to feel that same sense of fulfillment. Teaching became a natural path for me, because it allows me to guide students on their journey, help them discover their own creativity, and enjoy the process of making music.
  • How does your work help society?

Music is a universal language that connects people, heals emotions, and builds communities. Through teaching, I am able to give students not just a skill, but also a way to express themselves, build confidence, and find peace in rhythm. In a broader sense, my work contributes to society by spreading positivity, encouraging discipline, and creating opportunities for cultural expression. Every student who learns music becomes a part of this cycle, carrying forward the joy and inspiration to others.
  • If you had to think of a role model for your work, who do you think of & why?

In drumming, I look up to many iconic drummers who have shaped the way I play and teach. Legends like Jonathan Moffett (a.k.a. Sugarfoot), known for his precision and work with Michael Jackson, Josh Dun for his energy and creativity with Twenty One Pilots, and Matt McGuire for his dynamic live performances and electronic drumming techniques, have all been huge influences on me.

Each of them brings something unique — whether it’s groove, stage presence, or innovation — and I try to blend those elements into my own style. They remind me that drumming is not just about keeping time, but about creating an experience and connecting with people through rhythm.
  • Tell us about your hobbies outside teaching.

Outside of teaching, I enjoy exploring new forms of music, experimenting with different percussion instruments, and listening to diverse genres to broaden my musical vocabulary. I also spend time on personal growth, whether it’s learning new skills or reading. Beyond music, I enjoy connecting with people, traveling to new places, and experiencing different cultures, which often inspires my teaching and creativity.
  • Do you have an anecdote to tell us about your student or professional life?

One of my most memorable experiences as a teacher was when a beginner student, who initially struggled with timing and coordination, performed flawlessly in front of an audience after months of practice. The joy and pride on their face, as well as the appreciation from their family, reminded me why I teach. It wasn’t just about playing drums; it was about building confidence and creating lifelong memories. Moments like these motivate me to continue teaching with passion and patience.
