About Joan

I originally worked as an Executive Assistant in the corporate sector in Australia and New Zealand. This gives me an advantage in teaching Business English. My IELTS students will tell you I am tough - but I get results. I have been giving lessons for 6 years, and currently, I work part-time at the University of Waikato College teaching international students from pre-intermediate to academic.

About the lesson

I like to encourage the students to talk and take part in team exercises and pair work. I prefer them all to listen to each other reading aloud in class, then they can all learn from the corrections I suggest. 1:1 tutoring is organized according to the student's current English ability, and where they would like to make improvements. My style is open and friendly, so I can build their confidence with the language. I also use many online exercises and the GRAID App for IELTS.
