About Alex

My name is Alex Hastings, and I started Spectrum Music Studio to teach music. However, at Spectrum Music Studio, students learn more than just music. Students can learn how to make academics work for their individual learning style. Every student is unique and can succeed in their academic career, and Spectrum Music Studio is a place where students can unlock their potential.

Music tutoring subjects includes: Violin, music theory, note reading, ear training, music composition, music software

Academic tutoring subjects include: writing, reading, time management, study skills, research papers (high school and university)

I am a Suzuki Certified violin teacher, and I have been teaching music for five years. I am devoted to serving students with unique learning needs. I have played the violin for 14 years, and I am a graduate student at Boise State University. Aside from playing violin, I am a music composer, and an academic. I spend a lot of time writing papers and doing academic work, so I am eager to help students of all ages discover their own academic potential.

I started teaching violin when I was given some beginner students during my undergraduate studies. Since then, I have branched out to teaching students time management, writing skills, and helping them in any way to help them fulfill their academic potential.

Master's degree in Violin Performance (expected Spring 2022)- Boise State University

Bachelor's degree in Violin Performance, Music Composition, minors in Accounting, Business Administration (Spring 2020)

Suzuki certified violin teacher (as of 2018)

About the lesson

In the free trial lesson, I will meet with the student (and their parent, if the student is under 13) and discuss their academic needs. We will talk about their strengths in the subject, but also find some specific areas for growth. In a typical session, we would pick one or two assignments and discuss an objective, a plan of action, and an ideal outcome. I always end sessions by asking the student and/or parent if they have any further questions or concerns.

My most typical student is an elementary-age music student; however, I have also taught middle and high school ages, and I have mentored college students.

Students who have a growth mindset can accomplish anything they set their mind to. If you haven't found success in a subject yet, it's because you haven't found the method that works for you and your brain. If you have patience and persistence, you will find growth.

Details

I bill students once per month, at the beginning of the month. Billing will be for the upcoming month-- if a student misses a lesson and notifies me in advance, that lesson will be credited to the next month's bill.
