About Bobbie

One of the greatest lessons I've learned from being a tutor over the last four years, is that instilling confidence in a student always yields positive results. My main focus when helping a student create their ideal learning space is figuring out how to make that time somewhat relaxing and engaging, rather than a dreaded task they're quick to rush through.

For the last two years I've been a nanny to an eight year old boy, whom I tutored regularly. My tutoring covered help with math homework, to spelling tests, to memorizing poems in Spanish.

At the end of the day, I'm here to help your child love learning in their own way.

About the lesson

At first I like to see whether the student is engaged with their work. It's a whole different ball game working with someone who is being forced to sit there, compared to someone eager to learn.

Once I've gained some clarity I'll poke around to gather what interests the student may. This helps me gage whether or not they learn visually, which will be helpful when it comes time for me to communicate articulated responses.

I've worked with students as young as Kindergarteners all the way up to High School age.

When the eight year old I nanny for came home from school one afternoon, he beamed up at me and said "I got an A+ on my spelling test!" I congratulated him, bringing attention to the difficult words he had been stumbling on the night before.

Three weeks prior he had received a C+ on a spelling test, which sent his confidence plummeting. He dreaded studying for spelling and would always try and put it off. I decided that perhaps a change of scenery might be the thing to get him out of his slump, and I was correct. We sat outside on the sidewalk and in a new environment he became excited to spell his list of words. Walking up and down the sidewalk, tracing the letters on his arm.
