About James
I studied mathematics education at university, with a minor in English. While I was there, I tutored for the school's Academic Success Center all four years, teaching topics ranging from College Algebra to Multivariable Calculus, English to Philosophy, and even general tutoring and high school ACT prep independently.

I love math, and I love helping learners grow even more. Since I graduated college with my mathematics education degree, I've discovered that I prefer the personalized education of tutoring to institutional teaching, because it lets me develop plans that fit each learner's unique learning style. I look forward to working with you!
My father taught in the school I went to as a kid. I was a wide-eyed kid who loved learning about everything, so between my interest in learning and parents who guided those interests, I was bound to become a teacher at some point. I studied math education in college, tutored while I was there, and now I'm here.
I have a mathematics education bachelor's degree with an earned English minor. I also have four years of professional tutoring experience with my university's Academic Success Center.

With any student, I believe it's important to first establish a good rapport with the student by listening to understand where they are struggling with the subject. By doing this, I'm able to start to see the student's unique learning style so I can develop a personalized plan for helping the student improve in areas where they are struggling.
I have worked with a range of students, from students who just wanted to pass the class, to A+ students who just needed some help on more difficult topics, to those with documented exceptional learning needs. I believe each learner, regardless of classification, both needs and deserves an individualized training plan to help them meet their goals.
Always research the teachers you're looking at, to find out if they're qualified and able to teach you effectively. But don't forget that you get to choose your tutor, so look for someone that you think is interesting that you'll enjoy talking to! If tutoring is an experience you enjoy, you'll look forward to it each week instead of dreading it.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Make sure you think about if you're willing to put the work in. No good teacher is going to do your homework for you, but if a learner is willing to put in the effort to learn, a good teacher can take them anywhere they need to go.

I supervised Mr. Goff in an Academic Success Center and even had the privilege of observing him teach math classes. Mr. Goff not only understands math concepts, he is also skilled at helping others understand them as well. He will work to find ways to help his tutorees relate to whatever they are striving to learn.
Jay is very knowledgeable and personable.
My tutor was very prompt and flexible and worked to make sure he explained the concepts in a way that I understood. He also helped me build an appreciation for mathematics by not telling me the plain answers but helping me discover them myself. I would recommend Goff Math Tutoring.
