About Kayla

I have extensive tutoring experience; I have been a tutor for approximately 15 years in a range of subjects and student age/level. However, I most enjoy tutoring math and science. I love tutoring because it gives me a chance to give back and help students in subjects that are challenging but very interesting once you become comfortable with the content. I have taken all lower and upper level math courses as well as General Chemistry and Biology, Genetics, and several other upper level chemistry courses with laboratory experience. I have a Bachelor’s in Mathematics from UC Riverside and a second Bachelor’s in Biochemistry from Eastern Washington University. I graduated at a 3.5 in both degrees. At UCR, I studied mathematics courses from College Algebra through the Calculus series and then to classes such as Linear Algebra, Number Theory, Set Theory and Advanced Calculus. At Eastern Washington, I took classes from General Chemistry and Biology through Organic Chemistry and Physical Chemistry.

I very much enjoy helping people learn and expand theor knowledge base and, in the process, build their self-confidence and lower their anxiety or feeling of defeat. It is such an honor to impact someone else’s life, especially at a younger age, to help form healthy relationships with academia and learning. One never stops learning throughout life, so why not make it enjoyable?

I have two bachelors degrees, one in Mathematics and one in Biochemistry. I currently work as a Lavoratory Technician and love my job. My studies have given me several techniques for teaching students how to study, problem solve, and organize their work as well as any academic issues. I love helping people learn and have confidence in their work that they previously thought they couldn’t do.

About the lesson

I first start out asking where the student is in their work and which parts they are struggling with. I then assess the best approach to help the student work through what they are not understanding or having issues with. I work through examples or problem sets they have to walk through the steps and find out at what point the student is lost.
