About Michael

My name is Michael Dugan and I am a graduating Mechanical Engineer currently finishing my degree at the University of Washington. I have been tutoring math for over 4 years with a focus on helping students grasp the patterns and reasoning that underpin modern mathematical thinking and problem solving techniques.

Besides helping me pay my way through school, tutoring gives me an opporitunity interact with concepts that I would otherwise have fall by the wayside. It requires that I get out of my own head and try to see each problem for what it is to a new learner

About the lesson

I like to either help students work through practice problems in an "office hours"-style format, or walk them through material in which they have expressed uncertainty. A good starting point tends to be a particularly challenging homework problem or a confusing new topic covered in class.

While I generally teach Algrbra through Calculus to Middle and High School students, I have occationally worked with younger students on introductory math concepts.

Find someone who listens to you speak and understands the way you naturally approch a problem. Too many teachers forget what it is like to see a problem for the first time.
