About Nikiya Kiara

Hi! I am a Professional Engineer and multidisciplinary Stanford alum. I graduated from Stanford with my BS and MS in Civil Engineering (Construction Management), so technical subjects are my strong point. I have six years of experience tutoring/teaching Math, including but not limited to Geometry, Algebra, Calculus, and SAT Math (I received a perfect score on the Math portion of SAT I when I took the SAT back in 2007). However, I also have experience teaching non-technical subjects. For three years, I have been mentoring students on college prep, and my services include SAT I prep (all subjects) and college application consultation with essay revisions.

In addition to my engineering and management background and teaching experience, I am also an artist on the side (I have included a link to my art website on my profile). This is just an extra tidbit of information that I think adds something different to how I teach. Because of my skills in various arenas, I am able to tackle problems from different angles and analyze them through different perspectives. I use this same approach when teaching students -- I use my wide range of skills to be able to reach my students' comprehension and match their ways of thinking.

The first job I ever had was tutoring at the age of 14, and as I've grown and forged my career, no matter where it takes me, I try to continue my tutoring/teaching somehow. I find so much satisfaction in working with individuals to help them learn, while I also learn from them. I cater my teaching style to each student's needs and learning style, so each person I teach/tutor actually helps me become a better teacher. At the very core of teaching, what I enjoy most is just meeting people and getting to know them!
