About Taylor

I began tutoring in Korea during the COVID19 outbreak when students were switched to an online learning system to support parents. I specialize in math and English/reading, but am able to tutor in any and all subjects K-8, as well as high school English.

I am currently finishing my Bachelors degree with plans to graduate in December. I have a background in Elementary Education and Speech Language Pathology. I love kids and have a gift for working with them. I don't believe any child is "bad at math" as they sometimes feel, they just need to figure out how their brain understands math. My one-on-one tutoring sessions allow me to teach exactly to how your child learns and help them grasp concepts necessary for future math classes.

I was a 4.0 student from 7-12 grade and achieved high honors at graduation. I also scored a 31 on the ACT (in 2015) and was accepted to USU with a full ride scholarship for 4 years.
I attended USU as a part of their Elementary Education program for 3 semesters, before moving to Korea and switching to an online Speech Language Pathology program. I have a varied background in the world of education and child development which helps me cater to your child's individual needs.

About the lesson

Before any tutoring happens, I like to meet with a parent and the child together and discuss a schedule that works for all of us. Some kids would prefer to have a long session twice a week, others would prefer short sessions every day. I am flexible, and I want the child to succeed, so we make a plan based on what will give them the best support. We also agree on a payment method and schedule during that meeting.

During the first session, I like to make a to-do list with them to help the child get organized and see all the assignments that need to be completed in one place. Then, we go through the list and figure out which assignments they are confident they can do without my help, and which assignments they would like support for. Then we start working on an assignment of their choice (unless the parent gave specific guidance as to what they wanted accomplished) and work continuously on assignments until the session time is over. All through the session, I am changing my teaching methods based on how they react to my teaching style until I figure out what works for them.

Details

$25/hr for elementary aged students: sessions are 1-1.5 hours

$30/hr for middle school/junior high students: sessions are 1-2 hours

$35/hr for high school students: sessions are 1-2.5 hours

Students must schedule a minimum of 3 hours per week, but there is no maximum as needs will vary.
