About Kathleen

I have a Master's degree in history, and I minored in literature. I have been teaching all ages, beginning with piano lessons, since 2001. I focus on content application. If a student understands how content is applicable to real life, he or she will retain the information better. I have learning disabilities myself, which means I understand many of the challenges that can hinder learning, and how to work around them.

I have always been a natural teacher, and both my parents are teachers. I started teaching at my church's Vacation Bible School when I was 14. I progressed to piano lessons when I was 18.

I have a Master's degree in history. I taught college history for 5 years, and have also taught piano and swimming lessons. I have been tutoring children and adults since I was in college.

About the lesson

I assess their level and comprehension, as well as their learning style. I also get to know them a little. Then I formulate a plan for moving forward.

I have taught swimming and piano lessons to children as young as 2. I have worked with average and exceptional students, as well as those with learning disabilities and traumatic brain injuries.

One of my current students' fathers texted me to tell me that his daughter, who had been getting a D in her AP European History class, got an A on her last test.
